Post Graduate Structure

The aim of the Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management (Policing and Security) is to develop a student’s ability to demonstrate autonomy and expert judgement in relation to the leadership and management of policing and security organisations. Students will research, apply and reflect on leadership and management theories specific to the context of policing and security, as well as identify, examine and propose solutions to key challenges in human resource management, including change management, within this context. Student will also develop their communication, literacy, research and digital skills required of policing and security personnel.
 An AGSPS course is designed as a “meeting place” between the professional world of its students and the academic world of theory and research.  Successfully completing an AGSPS course should enhance a student’s ability to perform in both worlds. AGSPS courses aim to prepare graduates to contribute to theory and research as well as to professional practice.

Transfer and communicate complex knowledge and ideas to a variety of audiences including police, security personnel, and other stakeholders

Research, review, analyse, consolidate, synthesise and apply specialist theories and knowledge in police leadership and management

Demonstrate an understanding of the issues, challenges and opportunities associated with managing change in policing and security organisations

Demonstrate an advanced knowledge of contemporary theories and models of human resource practices, in respect of developing a motivated and engaged workforce

Apply critical thinking skills with autonomy, responsibility and accountability to evaluate and assess innovative solutions to policing and security problems

Demonstrate specialised knowledge of contemporary theories and models regarding the effective and efficient management of, and leadership in, policing and security organisations

An undergraduate degree or equivalent in a relevant and related field. OR An unrelated undergraduate degree or equivalent, together with at least 5 years experience in policing or security or similar. OR Be able to demonstrate experience in a leadership and management role in policing, security, or similar role to the satisfaction of the Course Director.
