Overview
The Diploma of Arts aims to provide graduates with broad foundational knowledge of the Humanities and Social Sciences disciplines of History, Philosophy, Sociology, English Literature, Politics, and Indigenous Studies. It also aims to equip students with foundational academic skills associated with reading, writing and critical thinking. Moreover, the Diploma of Arts functions as an introduction to the Bachelor of Arts as well as providing students with a broad overview of the professional sectors of employment commonly available to Humanities and Social Sciences graduates. Students also have the opportunity to complete two modules of transferable skills that are valued in professional contexts.

Learning outcomes
Upon completion of this course, graduates will be able to:

Explicate a broad and coherent body of foundational knowledge of disciplines within the Humanities and Social Sciences as a basis for independent lifelong learning and professional application.

Describe broad principles of ethical practice, social justice, cultural diversity, reconciliation and environmental sustainability in diverse contexts.
3.
Identify assumptions and values inherent in human behaviour and power structures and describe the processes in past and present society that have produced social change.
4.
Review knowledge in diverse contexts; think critically about complex problems; and describe different perspectives.
5.
Demonstrate the cognitive and technical skills relevant to social research that facilitate communication of a clear and coherent exposition of knowledge and ideas.
